He is in the dark. His eyes wide open, quietly staring into the shadows. Every night, as you lay to sleep, you can catch a glimpse of him beside you in the corner of your eyes, but you will tell yourself he is not there and proceed to close your eyes and try and stay calm. You may start to think about your life, you may dwell inside your particular world of fantasy, and sooner or later you sleep, once more unaware of his existence.

Yet he is there, and as you deeply rest he stares at you and into your soul.

You see, he has many faces, it depends on what you’re afraid of. Yes, your fears take form in the shades, they meddle with your angst, your hate, your insecurity and they ensure that you will not be able to forget or overcome them. They gaze as your soul wanders about inside your head and they become one with her. Or at least so he tries.

We call him nightmare.

He haunts us at night, torments your restless spirits in the morning and worries us for the rest of the day. He feeds on what hurts us the most and manages to not let us forget our weaknesses. However, do not worry, for his hungry eyes won’t seek yours and his sharp teeth won’t hurt you while your eyes are open.

But as soon as your mind begins to wander and conscience starts to fade away, be sure to know: He will be there at your side, smiling and ready to destroy your hopes and your dreams while you rest. Sometimes he will feel satisfied and won’t feed on your soul for some time, but remember

He will always be there, waiting for your eyes to close.
